Over the past five days, we’ve witnessed incredible progress on the ground in Kenya. The construction of the school building has surged forward, bringing us ever closer to our goal of having kindergarten students walk through its doors by April 29th. This is not just a building; it's a beacon of hope, a foundation for education, and a place where dreams will be nurtured and realized.

While much has been accomplished, a few crucial elements remain to be completed to ensure this school provides the comprehensive learning environment these children deserve. We are in a pivotal moment, and your partnership can make all the difference.

The Critical Need for Permanent Power

One of our most significant outstanding projects is securing permanent utility power for the school. Currently, thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we have a fully functional solar electric system. This system will illuminate classrooms, power outlets, and even support the future computer lab, providing essential tools for modern education. However, to truly sustain the school and the wider community, permanent utility power is indispensable.

This ambitious step involves a crucial investment. We need to purchase utility poles, which are unfortunately quite expensive at approximately $1,200 US each. Our initial estimates indicate we require three of these poles, totaling $3,600. Beyond the poles, there's the significant cost of acquiring all the necessary cabling to connect our property to the main utility grid from the town. This permanent power supply won’t just serve the school; it will also benefit the church located on the campus and the future medical center, creating a robust infrastructure for the entire community.

This is where our incredible $20,000 fundraising goal comes into play. Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of so many amazing people, we have already exceeded this initial target by $3,000! Beyond power, another critical need is the improvement of the access road leading to the school. The existing dirt road is, frankly, a challenge. It's incredibly bumpy, making travel difficult and, as one of our team members aptly put it, "it will wreck any car coming in." Easy and safe access is paramount for students, teachers, and community members.

Our plan is to excavate and level this dirt road, hiring a grader or tractor to smooth it out completely. While our ultimate vision is to have a paved road, the immediate goal is to make it safely passable. This improvement will enhance accessibility, reduce travel time, and ensure that nothing hinders these children from accessing the education they so desperately desire. This seemingly small detail has a profound impact on daily life and the sustained operations of the school.
